Hi, I’m Susan - the owner of Household Transitions of the Gulf Coast (HOST).
I’m a 1992 graduate of the University of Alabama where I studied communications and political science. I launched HOST alongside my daughter, Rae - a recent University of Alabama graduate - because we genuinely enjoy helping people solve problems and make their homes, wherever they may be, comfortable, supportive spaces.
After college, I began my career in political consulting in Washington, D.C. In 1999, I returned home to the Gulf Coast when my dad began experiencing health issues and needed additional support. While raising my family, I continued my consulting work and also opened my home to several elderly family members who needed care. Helping my family navigate the emotional, legal, financial and logistical concerns that come with aging, provided a great hands-on education and sparked an interest that would eventually launch a new career.
After my children left home, I transitioned into work as a home care and then a hospice care consultant, where I served dozens of families navigating the challenges that come with aging and health-related changes. Through this work, I gained additional experience assisting families from all walks of life, downsize, age in place, and transition to assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. These experiences shaped the heart of HOST and continue to guide the way we support families today.
